Honestly, it felt like the farm season of the walking dead to me. And I still fill that it had a good opportunity to build into something more than the collection of trapped horror clichés that it is. I really was excited about this book after so many recommendations here. It built some intensity that just kind of plateaus and then the book ends. For me, it felt like the book entirely lacked a climax. Nothing mattered and stuff just happened. But from the moment they hit the ruins until the very end, it felt a lot like a slice of life story.

I know it literally doesn't fit the definition. Depending on the perspective, the people get an ending, but the overall ending is just left open. Their is conflict between the people, but ultimately none of it matters and most of it leads to nowhere. Technically there is a conflict, but not really. I'm using the term very loosely and somewhat jokingly.
